We have a wide variety of doulas and we are sure to have one that will be a perfect addition to your birth experience. If you are interested in meeting wtih a specific doula, please let us know in advance. Otherwise, Melissa will meet with all couples who are interested in our doula services and make a match based on birth preferences, due dates and availability.

All of our Doulas must complete the following process in order to attend births as a Natural Lullabies Doula:
- Attend 2 births as an observer of a Senior Doula
- Attend 2-3 births while being observed by a Senior Doula
- Meet academic requirements including reading books and completing book reports
- Attend Doula Trainings throughout the year
- Attend a thorough childbirth education course such as our own Pure Birth - Holistic Birth Education Class
- Plus more
Our Doulas must also agree to our Doula Code of Ethics which require the following:
- Represent themselves in a professional manner when in contact with clients.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards and integrity.
- Encourage clients to be active in their childbirth choices
- Respect the privacy of their clients
- Honor all agreements made for doula services
- Treat colleagues and ALL care-providers with respect and to behave professionally.
- Refrain from giving medical advice to clients. Reseach and resources are permitted to be provided.
- Respect the childbirth choices made by clients. We will not demean or belittle their choices, or disagree with them.
- Honor clients’ care-providers. Do nothing to undermine clients’ confidence in her careprovider. You may provide alternate resources and ask open-ended questions.
- Refrain from performing medical services.
- Refer clients to appropriate resources if faced with something beyond our scope.
All Doulas are expected to maintain our strict Doula Standards of Practice:
- Assist the woman and her family in the prenatal period with educational, emotional and physical support.
- It is not within our scope to provide or offer medical services and/or advice.
- Assist the mother and her partner with writing a birth plan and to discuss fears and expectations.
- Discuss with the family the details of the birth, such as who will be there, what comfort techniques they would like to try, and to review the stages of labor.
- Open a dialogue so each person attending is adequately informed of his/her role at the birth.
- Facilitate communication with family and their caregivers.
- Support the mother and her partner verbally, physically and emotionally.
- Assist with early breastfeeding.
- Talk through the birth experience with the family.
- Answer questions about newborn care.
- Refer family as needed to appropriate resources.
